Happy New Year Spartans! This is Jamie, your Sports Editor for Sword and Shield, and I hope everyone has had a nice and relaxing winter break, filled with holiday cheer and just the right amount of desserts (I went overboard). To start out 2026, we have a whole bunch of spectacular stories, as always written by our own passionate student writers.
In Arts & Entertainment, we have a whopping four movie reviews for all of 2025’s final big hits, and our beloved monthly crochet pattern.
In Student Life, we have a preview of everyone’s favorite, DOLs, as well as key disease updates that have an impact on the student body. Finally, we have a piece on VPM’s own forensics team, which starts competition this month.
In News, we have updates on some of the nation’s biggest stories, from Trump’s arguments with reporters to the New York Times suing the Pentagon.
In Sports, we have pieces on ice fishing and the latest on winter olympic qualifiers.
And finally, in Opinions, we have three articles covering a variety of topics, from why New Year’s should be in spring instead of winter, the impact of sororities, and a Bubbl’r Flavor Ranking.
If you’re interested in joining Sword and Shield and writing an article for our February issue, come to room 1716 on Thursday, January 8th, where we’ll have our planning meeting. There, we’ll plan the month ahead’s articles and have a ton of fun. Thanks for reading our January issue Spartans! This might just be one of Sword and Shield’s best months yet.
