Memorial’s Spring play this year has been announced! The VPM drama department is doing the play: Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind by Greg Allen.
This production will include the performance of 45 plays in 80 minutes, instead of the normal 30 plays in 60 minutes it usually contains. This is a fun play where the audience chooses a number to ‘play’ off of a ‘menu’, which features comedies, heavier, emotional pieces, poetry, and political commentary. The shows will be on May 15th and 16th, featuring two shows during the evening, and possibly a Saturday matinee. It’s filled with fun moments, audience interaction, and, most importantly, a talented cast! All of the plays are set on the stage (although sometimes in the audience), and all the actors are more or less themselves the entire time. It’s a work of the Neo-futurism movement, which started in the 60s and 70s.
The show will be pulled together with the amazing amount of props headed by Skye Andrews, a fantastic set designed by Frank Schneeberger, costumes designed by Maggie Benton, makeup by Shira Heifetz, and lighting by Nev Weismer. Our cast of twelve has started rehearsal, which is going strong! My unbiased opinion is that it’s super fun, and I wish I could be the audience in so many of these scenes. It’s fun for all, and I can’t wait to see everyone there!
