Ouija Boards. A classic sleepover pastime. Talking to the dead. The planchette moved seemingly by itself to answer questions asked. But people don’t understand the dangers. All they see is a fun way to “talk” to ghosts. They think it’s a joke. But people who believe in the paranormal, they know why Ouija boards are dangerous.
Firstly, you don’t know what on earth you might be talking to. So many times I’ve heard people just invite all the spirits to talk to them. With something like an Ouija board, where the spirit channels through you, you don’t want just any spirit channeling through you. Bad spirits will take advantage of that to attach themselves to you or harm you. You want to ask for a specific spirit to talk to you. If something feels off, or like something has changed, make sure to check you are still talking to the same spirit.
Secondly, while the summoning demon part isn’t necessarily true, dangerous spirits can still and will talk to you using the board and may even attempt to harm you. So many people don’t take proper precautions before using a Ouija board. I mean, for the gods’ sake, they don’t even put a salt circle down. When dealing with Ouija boards, first don’t intend to summon a demon, and secondly, use sage and salt to ward off evil spirits. Third, you have the power. If you feel something touches you and you don’t want it to do that, don’t let it. Tell it that it is not allowed to touch you. You are living. You have the power to tell it not to.
Thirdly, there are many better ways to communicate with the paranormal. Of course there is paranormal equipment made specifically to find and communicate with the paranormal; such as a spirit box, a piece of tech that rapidly scans through AM/FM radio channels and picks up Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) allowing the spirits to form word and speak, EVP recorders, which cut out the static and just give spoken and detected words, SLS cameras, which can detect movement by mapping a 3D environment using laser dots and finding breaks in the pattern of those dots, EMF detectors, which detect electromagnetic fields, and REM pods, which detects changes in its electromagnetic field and changes in temperature around it.
Now, many people don’t trust these devices because they are made specifically for paranormal investigation, but some ways don’t rely on paranormal equipment. You can use a thermal camera to detect strange changes in temperature, either hot or cold. You can use simple catballs, cat toys that light up when touched even lightly, or flashlights. The spirit taps the flashlight to turn it on or off. Sometimes you can use your phone camera to capture a picture of a spirit. Child spirits might play with balls, pushing them around or even pushing them back to you. Or simply enough, just your ears. Sometimes you will hear knocks, doors slamming, taps, footsteps, or even voices.
All of these ways do not require the spirit to touch you or interact with you physically in any way. It is much safer that way. Oftentimes these ways are also more convincing than a Ouija board, and don’t require you to summon anything.
Personally, I will never touch an Ouija board. They are far too dangerous to me. And I recommend that you don’t mess with them. Use some other form of paranormal equipment. I can’t stop anyone from using them, but if you do, please take precautions. No one wants to be haunted.
