As wildfires devastate Maui, Hawaii, residents are left to deal with the aftermath. While the cause of these fires are still being examined, a 5-year-old, 2,000 miles away, has joined the efforts for disaster relief.
The fires had started a week after a family vacation to Hawaii, and Edison was overwhelmed by the images shown on TV of the wildfires in Lahaina. Edison’s parents took this as a chance to explain what had happened in Maui, and Edison asked more about the situation and the people affected. Inspired by a lemonade stand in Colorado, he asked to set up a stand to raise money for the victims.
The response was incredible as many customers paid the $1 for lemonade and donated the change. After a week of sales, multiple companies matching the donations, and online fundraising, Edison and his family were able to donate $17,000 to Lahaina.
