NHS Induction Information Class of 24

NHS Induction Information Class of 24

Given that the auditorium was closed due to construction at the end of the 2022-2023 school year, the typical spring induction ceremony for the National Honors Society (NHS) was moved to the 2023-2024 year for this year’s graduating class. Scheduled for Wednesday, November 15, 2023, the NHS induction ceremony will welcome members from the class of 2024 into the organization.

The National Honors Society is a National Organization founded in 1921 and dedicated to recognizing leadership, character, academic rigor, and service in students. While overseen by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, each local NHS chapter has a degree of autonomy in guiding the “leaders of tomorrow.”

NHS is rooted in the four pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Scholarship is represented through not only coursework and grades but also a demonstrated commitment to increase one’s knowledge in the future. Service involves selfless acts dedicated to the improvement of the world around oneself, putting one outside of their comfort zone in order to create change. Leadership involves influencing others positively through one’s actions fostering growth and excellence within a collaborative community. While local NHS chapters may have officers, all members are expected to embody leadership qualities in the community. Finally, Character defines people, not only in acceptance of diversity, respect, and responsibility but also in following moral guidelines and making the right decisions.

For underclassmen interested in being part of NHS their senior year, the requirements, should they remain the same as this past year, are a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA, five total semesters of VPM clubs or activities across at least two different activity areas, 30 or more verified hours of volunteering since freshman year, and a teacher recommendation. In addition, students should demonstrate traits of leadership and initiative throughout the community. If looking to get involved, students could look into joining clubs and/or athletics at Memorial, especially service-oriented groups in order to access more volunteer activities. This would be in addition to maintaining good academic standing and building connections with teachers.

The NHS officers for the class of 2024 are as follows:

  • President: Jonathan Buscher
  • Vice President: Anvika Annyapu
  • Secretary: Eva Eckel
  • Historian: Grace Capuano
