Airing an episode every Monday, the Spartan News team strives to maintain a consistent production schedule while having fun in the process. Though the last fifteen years and 450+ episodes have gone smoothly, things are shaken up every September when the seniors participating are no longer involved. Thus, the cycle continues. New managers take over each year only to graduate the next, and those who worked behind the scenes come to the forefront. That being said, this cycle won’t be able to continue without new members. The Spartan News team is searching for students, and if you believe you’d be a good fit… we encourage you to go for it!
Through meeting the individuals already involved, a new member will be able to climb up the rope and become a production manager by the time those currently leading have graduated. If you’re an underclassman, joining the club early may prove beneficial. The longer you’re in the club, the easier it is to get a firm grasp on how an organized production functions. So much work goes into a singular episode, and mastering a certain position can prove that you are a reliable member!
Editing
Through our spreadsheet system, editors can willingly sign up to edit any clip they desire. Whether it be Question of the Week, Clip, or club announcements hosted by your classmates, you’re given the ability to choose what you want to work on!
Anchor desk / Hosting
Whilst anchoring an episode’s desk portion is often limited to upperclassmen, any member is able to host our Question of the Week portion! A new member is able to sign up for the position by talking with our current advisors at club meetings.
Filmography and camerawork
If you’ve taken a video or photography elective in your time at Memorial, you’ve surely had your fair share of experience with cameras. If you have that information in the back of your mind, yet don’t know what to do with it, filming certain segments is the best way to put your abilities to use!
Brainstorming
Though the team would love it if you could get involved production-wise, sitting in on meetings and helping brainstorm can make you a reliable member in and of itself! Whether it be coming up with next week’s question or planning holiday-themed segments months in advance, any contribution is a good contribution!
The Spartan News team would love to hear from anyone interested in getting involved! Our weekly club meetings are held every Tuesday during lunch in room 1716. Segments such as Anchor desk and Question are regularly filmed the day afterward, so hanging around the video lab is a wonderful way to meet new people and have fun behind the camera. Contribute ideas, edit segments, and befriend students of all grades on Spartan News!
