Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was one of the most anticipated movies of this year, starring Letitia Wright as Shuri, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, and Michaela Coel as Aneka, among many others. It was released as a sequel to Black Panther on November 11th, 2022. The movie was highly anticipated as Oscar-winning actor Chadwick Boseman had previously starred in the lead role of King T’Challa in the 2018 Black Panther. However, in 2020, Boseman sadly passed away at age 43 after a four-year-long battle with colon cancer. His spirit lived on when the cast of Wakanda Forever paid tribute to their former co-star on the purple carpet of the movie’s world premiere.

Letitia Wright honored Boseman by wearing an outfit that resembled his 2018 premiere look for Black Panther. Janeshia Adams-Ginyard, who plays Noble, a member of Dora Milaje, similarly honored Boseman by including a figure of his face on their back. The co-writer and director of the Black Panther movies, Ryan Coogler, wore a necklace/chain embellished with a picture of Boseman.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is also breaking history with the exciting feature of Black actress, Michaela Coel, as Aneka, a canonically queer warrior in the Marvel comic book series. Michaela Coel said the queer identity of her character in the movie is what drew her to the role.
