In September of 2022, the Emmys awarded in drama, Zendaya for “Euphoria” (for the second year in a row) and Lee Jung-jae for “Squid Game,” (the first person from a foreign-language show to win in this category), while the top comedy awards went to Jason Sudeikis for “Ted Lasso” and Jean Smart for “Hacks.” “Succession”, the favorite hard-nosed business empire drama, once again took home the largest number of prizes (also earning 25 nominations total) after a two-year pandemic hiatus. In the limited series/anthology category, “White Lotus” (a murder mystery set at a Hawaiian hotel, starring Alexandra Daddario, Jennifer Coolidge–who won her first Emmy for best supporting actress, and Sydney Sweeney) earned the most awards. Quinta Brunson became only the second Black woman to win in Outstanding Comedy Writing for “Abbott Elementary”, while Sheryl Lee Ralph won her first Emmy for Best Supporting Actress for the show as well.
