Death at the Ironman

Death at the Ironman
Seehafer

Dax Bakken, a 51-year-old man passed away during the 112 mile biking leg of the Ironman triathlon. An Ironman staff member and an off-duty police officer saw that the man needed medical attention while in the Cross Plains section of the bike portion. The two provided medical attention until emergency services took over, bringing him to the nearest hospital, where he passed away. It is still unclear as to what exactly caused his death.

Bakken was a Military Veteran who had served in the Desert Storm. Additionally, he had a wife, Kristin, a daughter and two sons. The Ironman organization sent out a condolence note for his family, and thanked the helpers that provided him with medical support. There is a GoFundMe to help support Bakken’s family after the tragic loss: Go Fund Me .
