Are you interested in fantasy, mystery, romance, or thriller novels? Do you want to find a relaxed, friendly group of friends to discuss your latest read with? Whatever kind of fiction or fun you’re looking for, there’s no better place for it than Fiction Book Club!
Fiction Book Club meets once a month on Tuesdays in room 1216 to discuss their latest read. During their meetings, they share their thoughts on the story, talk about their favorite characters, and find a new book for the next meeting. Oftentimes, after their group discussion, they have a fun book-related craft for everyone to enjoy. These include decorating custom bookmarks, making bracelets, and more!
Depending on the season and member’s preferences, the books they read could be from a number of different genres. In the fall, the club tends to pick novels with darker themes, whether it’s a haunting thriller or a spooky murder mystery. A favorite from last year was The Fury by Alex Michaelides, a story of deceit and tragedy told by an unreliable narrator. In the spring, they may mix it up with some romance or historical fiction. One title that the club found inspiring in the past was The Women by Kristin Hannah, a historical fiction novel about a Vietnam war nurse who grapples with the weight of returning from the heart of the conflict.
However, these topics are always changing because all of these titles are decided by the members. Every month, the club votes between 5-6 options to choose the book that intrigues the most people. In this way, everyone gets a chance to make their voice heard and have a say in what happens! The club strives to be a welcoming place where everyone gets to read what they love and hang out with people who appreciate their interests.
If any of these activities and offerings interest you, or you have other ideas you want to share, make sure to join Fiction Book Club for their next meeting this month! Details can be found by joining Google Classroom with the code dgzoxh4 or through their Instagram at @vpmfictionbookclub!
