Election Day is next Tuesday! Many seniors are eligible to vote this year! However, where and how to do so can sometimes be confusing. Here’s some key information so you can exercise your right to vote and participate in democracy as a U.S. citizen!
It is too late to pre-register to vote online, but you can still register at your polling place on Election Day! MMSD has no school Tuesday, so you have plenty of time to get to your polling location, where election officials will help you register and complete your ballot. Officials are local Madisonians just like you and are there to help, so don’t be afraid to ask questions! You can locate your polling place on the MyVote WI website, at the “Find My Polling Place” page.
Be sure to make a plan ahead of time to ensure that you can fill out your ballot on time. Polls close at 8 PM across Wisconsin, and as long as you are in line by then, you are eligible to vote, so stay in line! Look for when your specific polling place is open (most Wisconsin precincts close at 8:00 PM) and head there on Election Day to participate in the election. Please make sure to bring a valid form of ID/proof of address (info also on the MyVote site) to your polling place! Voting can take as little as ten to fifteen minutes, but it can take longer too if there are lines, so get there early!
If you are still unsure about how or where to vote, simply go to the MyVote Wisconsin website for more information. If you can’t find what you are looking for there, you can reach the State Elections Commission at [email protected] or by calling (608)-266-8005.
