Everyone wants to feel valued, respected, and like they are not wasting their time, this is something that everyone who thinks about joining a club considers and as you get more involved think more critically about. One of the ways that people feel like they are efficiently spending their time is through compensation. Whether that be through real money, volunteer hours, or other forms of recognition, it’s nice to get something for your hard work.
Many people in the news especially believe that the work they do deserves such recognition as this, like pay. But do they really deserve something like this? Well they do a lot of work for our school. Making the news happen is no small thing, paper or video. They plan shots, write articles, make scripts and so much more to produce high quality content for VPM. It’s almost like a part time job when you include editing, producing, and filming on top of that. SO who’s to say they shouldnt receive a little bit of compensation for that, they clearly do great work for this school with club promotion, school announcements, and entertainment.
Therefore school news officers should get paid as they play an essential role in cross school communication and give clubs a great way to reach more people. This promotes the atmosphere that we want at VPM where everyone can be heard and seen and if we want this to continue at better quality some pay would help greatly.
