The musical for winter of 2024 is Something Rotten! Something Rotten tells the story of playwright brothers Nick and Nigel bottom, who live in the renaissance era, and are competitors to Shakespeare. Nick, on the brink of failure, turns to soothsayer Thomas Nostradamus to find out that musicals will be the next big thing in theater, while Nigel falls in love with Portia, a puritan woman, at the detest of her father. More hijinks include a Shakespearean rock concert, the musical “Omelette” (a Nostradamus misinterpretation of Hamlet), and lots of tap dancing and references. The show is very referential to other musicals and does not try to take itself seriously. There are many characters and a huge ensemble, so all students who want to should definitely audition! Auditions are November 12 and 13 after school in the choir room, mandatory dance auditions for everyone auditioning are after school on November 12 (even if you’re auditioning on the 13th). Call backs will be on the 14th, so keep your schedules clear! Excerpts of audition songs and the sign up sheet are both available in the choir room, just ask Ms. McMahon!
