Swimming is a sport that is constantly changing from new suits to new teams and new competitors being on top, records break often and it is hard to make your mark among the great. Katie Ledecky is now one of those greats. After competing in the summer 2024 Olympics in Paris she broke records in multiple events and set the stage for more to break. One big record she broke was breaking Michel Phelps’s record for most individual gold medals at the world championships. This has enshrined the US swimmer as a great champion of the sport going from swimming in her hometown in Bethesda Maryland to becoming a world champion. She has even gotten recognition from Joe Biden as he awarded her the presidential medal of freedom this year to commemorate her storied career. Along with that many regard her as the greatest female swimming athlete of all time as year after year she continues to push further.
