Rumors. The spreading of stories too exciting to be deemed untrue because of lack of evidence. Rumors have built social hierarchies and caused empires to fall. They can be funny, weird, or just plain mean and destructive. DDAF’s fall play examines the effects of rumors in the funniest way possible.
On an evening long to be remembered by those involved, four couples arrive at an anniversary party celebrating the town’s deputy mayor Charley Brock and his wife Myra. At the arrival of the first couple, Ken and Chris Gorman, a gunshot is heard. As Ken and Chris try to find out what happened, they discover the kitchen staff are gone and Myra, the hostess, is missing. They try to keep the fact that Charley is wounded and Myra is gone under wraps, but as the story unfolds and more couples arrive, it proves difficult to stop the rumors. This play will be performed by our very own Spartan actors in a few weeks. Currently, the actors are hard at work in rehearsal.
“Rumors” will be directed by Mr. Goldman, the new Drama Director at Memorial. Here is his introduction to the Memorial community, which can also be found in the VPM connections email. “Hello Memorial Community! My name is Eliav Goldman and I am the new Drama Director here at Memorial. I grew up in Madison and even though I attended West (sorry!) I have a real affection for Memorial…I am so excited to continue the long tradition of theater excellence at Memorial. I encourage all of you to find ways to be involved in Memorial Theater. The DDAF community is truly welcoming, supportive, and so much fun. Your first opportunity to be involved is our Fall Play, Rumors by Neil Simon. Rumors is a classic farce, with an abundance of hilarious misunderstandings that transform a sophisticated dinner party into an utterly chaotic evening.” (“MMSD Mail – September 2023 Issue of VPM Connections”) Mr. Goldman will also be directing the spring play and co-directing the winter musical. Come watch the chaos unfold on October 27th and 28th at 7 p.m. in the VPM auditorium.
