The movie did very well at the box office, generating $369 million in revenue. The film even holds the record as the biggest December opening for Universal Pictures in the horror genre.

The movie is about a video game that has the same name as the movie. It’s a game in which you work at an American Entertainment chain as a security guard from the 90s. The most important things here are the animatronics – Freddy, Bonnie, Foxy, and Chica, the mascots of Five Nights at Freddy’s. As you go deeper into the game and continue working, you start to realize the animatronics know something that you don’t.

To summarize the plot, the main characters Abby, Mike, and Vanessa manage to escape the Freddy Fazbear entertainment from the first movie. Abby is noticeably saddened after leaving the animatronics, but Vanessa and Mike try their best to prevent the memory of Freddy Fazbear from haunting them. Since the first establishment of Freddy Fazbear with the toy animatronic, the marionette has been haunting Vanessa, using someone close to her to disturb her deeply.

The actors, designers, and filmmakers did an amazing job of visualizing the haunted settings of this story. When comparing the first and the second movie, the second is definitely scarier with more violent scenes. The toy animatronics genuinely appear to be toys, and their motions are depicted well in the game. My favorite characters from the movie were Mangle and Marionette because both of them in the game are hard to design for with a specific part – if you know, you know.

Another thing I liked about the movie was the inclusion of Matthew Robert Patrick, a.k.a MatPat, a retired game theory Youtuber whose videos focused on Five Nights at Freddy’s. He did an amazing job of voicing Toy Bonnie, an upgrade after his participation in the first movie as a background diner character.

When you go to the movie theater for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the environment is fun because all the fans are there to enjoy. I am glad the movie has come out and that fans are enjoying it. It’s been so long since we’ve seen a project by Scott Cawthon in digital, and I’m excited for the next one.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, directed by Scott Cawthon, was released on December 5, 2025.
