This month’s issue will discuss the New DLC for the hit third-person looter shooter Risk of Rain 2. If you have kept up with video game news you may know of the new drama surrounding Seekers of the Storm DLC, the first DLC by the new owners of RoR2 (and the whole Risk of Rain series), Gearbox. At first glance, the DLC looks like an awesome new expansion that could rival the past DLC Survivors of the Void. But instead, we got a glitchy mess.

Gearbox said that the new DLC Seekers of the Storm, promises new stages, 3 brand-new playable characters, a whole new antagonist, and expanding upon the game’s lore. But when we first opened the game on launch, we were met with the buggiest game ever. Some people could not even buy it while others were stuck on the main menu. Not a great start.

The new items are of questionable quality, the new maps are actually very pretty, and the new characters are also pretty fun. But the DLC did come with an enormous amount of bugs which made the game virtually unplayable. At least the music is awesome like usual.

We have mixed feelings about the DLC. On one hand, we have been enjoying it a lot, while on the other hand, we think that some of the bugs are insane. We personally haven’t experienced them, but we know lots of people have. The bugs have ranged from things such as: item outlines not loading, animations not working properly, or the screen being shrunk. All the way until things like the game or menu not loading entirely, or the game repeatedly crashing.

In response, people have tried to refund the DLC, left numerous negative reviews on both the base game and the DLC, and have even found ways to revert the game back to before the update. Gearbox had obviously taken the reaction into account and are currently working on fixing the issues. This is a good thing not just because of the fixes, but also that it shows the company will listen to any issues coming up. So far, the first updates have started to come out, with more to come shortly. Needless to say, this whole issue has left a bad reputation about Gearbox and their work on the Risk of Rain franchise, who knows what they might do next?

Welcome to the brand-new Indie Explorers, where we discuss the latest Indie game news.
